From November through December 2018, I have a show up at the multicultural Madison Square Christian Reformed Church, 1441 Madison Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI. It is available to view on Sunday mornings from 8:30 am – 1 pm.
My artwork embodies these themes: Creation is beautiful but broken. Celebrate the Christ child who “moved into the neighborhood (John 1:14, MSG version),” and redeems us through the cross. He gave his body and blood that we may have union and communion with God and one another, new life and light under the shelter of his wings. Christ’s arms are open wide as he invites everyone to join the heavenly banquet.
(See link below to “Creation Groans.” That painting was in ArtPrize 2015, and is also in the Madison Square Church exhibit. http://www.artprize.org/barbara-bjelland/2015/creation-groans)
Please email me if you would like to purchase originals or prints of my artwork, or if you would like to bring the show to your church or other setting! The show can be set up interactively, with stations for spiritual formation activities. I also love doing talks on art and theology, and how Jesus reveals himself to us as he is embodied in art and the Sacrament of Communion.
My piece below is entitled “Telacapaque.”
